Help Your Pet Get Holiday Ready: Thanksgiving Safety and Convenient Veterinary Care

The kitchen smells wonderful, the doorbell keeps ringing, and your dog has appointed themselves the official turkey supervisor. Meanwhile, your cat may be wondering when everyone plans to leave.

Thanksgiving brings plenty of things we love, but extra food, unfamiliar faces, and changes in routine can create challenges for our pets. Planning ahead—including scheduling veterinary care before the holiday rush—can help everyone enjoy a more comfortable season.

At The Pawlyclinic, we offer both mobile and in-clinic care. While home visits are a wonderful option, our clinic currently offers more availability and sooner appointments, giving you another convenient way to get your pet the attention they need.

Keep the Feast Out of Reach

Those hopeful eyes can be hard to resist. But sharing a holiday plate can expose your pet to ingredients that upset their stomach or cause serious illness.

Turkey skin, gravy, and rich side dishes can trigger digestive problems and pancreatitis. Bones can cause choking or intestinal blockage. Other holiday hazards include onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, chocolate, alcohol, raw yeast dough, and products containing xylitol.

The easiest way to include your pet? Offer a familiar treat made for them, and let guests know that table scraps are off the menu. Secure the trash afterward, too—leftover bones and food wrappers can be just as tempting as dinner itself.

Make Room for Some Quiet Time

Some pets enjoy a house full of people. Others prefer a quieter celebration.

Think beyond a quiet room: play soft music or white noise to help mask the doorbell and lively conversations, and put a friendly “Pet resting—please keep closed” sign on the door so guests don’t accidentally wander in. Choose a space visitors won’t need for coats or bags, and settle your pet there before the first arrivals rather than during the busiest moment.

Let your pet choose whether to interact, and ask visitors to respect their space. Keep exterior doors secure as guests come and go, and check that identification tags and microchip contact details are current.

Schedule Care Before Your Calendar Fills Up

Between shopping, travel, and hosting, November appointments can easily slip down the to-do list. If your pet is due for a wellness visit or you have a concern you’ve been meaning to discuss, now is a good time to contact us.

You don’t have to wait for a mobile appointment to become available. Our clinic has more openings sooner, and our team can help you find an appointment that fits your schedule and your pet’s needs.

When you call, let us know what’s going on with your pet and ask about our earliest in-clinic availability.

Have a Holiday Backup Plan

Save the contact information for a nearby emergency veterinary hospital before Thanksgiving. If you suspect your pet has eaten something harmful, seek veterinary guidance promptly rather than waiting for symptoms.

The Pawlyclinic is closed on Thanksgiving Day, so plan routine care and discuss ongoing concerns ahead of the holiday.
